Conveyance: Rearing to Make Mark in Kentucky Derby
Bob Baffert is unquestionably one of the greatest trainers of all time, with over 1,600 career victories and three Kentucky Derby wins. Baffert has a couple horses who could win him his fourth Run for the Roses, Heading into the Kentucky Derby on May 1. One of them is Conveyance.
Indian Charlie is the daughter of Emptythetill, herself a daughter of American Horse of the Year Holy Bull, sired him. Gulf Coast Farms bred him. Conveyance was bought for $240,000 by Legends Racing. He is trained by Bob Baffert and is now owned by Zabeel Racing International.
Conveyance has graded stakes earnings of $386,000. On the graded stakes earnings list leading into the Kentucky Derby He is currently in 11th place. The San Rafael Stakes (1/16/10), the Southwest Stakes (2/20/10), and the Sunland Derby (3/28/10) are the three Grade 3 races He has participated in. He won the first two and finished second in the last one.
Conveyance was undefeated, Heading into the Sunland Derby. The 3-5 favorite appeared to be headed for certain victory, as the race unfolded. Suddenly, 12-1 Long Shot Endorsement bolted ahead for an easy win, putting a halt to Conveyance’s win streak.
To be able to make successful transition from synthetic to dirt tracks, Conveyance is part of the growing trend of California-bred horses. With a victory at the Southwest Stakes on the dirt track of Oaklawn Park Race Track, He followed up his win at the San Rafael Stakes on the synthetic track of Santa Anita Park.
